Email Configuration Instructions

 
  • In order to use email through Falling Anvil, you must choose a Secure connection.
  • Secure connections use "TLS" protocol.
 
Installation is a 3 step process
  1. Install the racer.net security certificate
    Note: If you skip this step, then everytime you make a connection to the system, you will be prompted to verify the security certificate.
  2. Configure the email client to use TLS
    or SSL (if using ATT as your ISP)
  3. Configure the email client to authenticate to the outgoing (SMTP) server
 
Step 1 - Install the security certificate
 
Using Internet Explorer, go to https://racer.net:465
Note: Mozilla will block port 465. If you want to use Mozilla, see http://www.mozilla.org/projects/netlib/PortBanning.html
IE will pop up a security alert. Click on "View Certificate"
IE will pop up the certificate details. Click on "Install Certificate"
IE will startup the Certificate Import Wizard. Select Next
IE will let you choose a certificate store. Select "Automatic", then "Next"
IE will complete the process. Select "Finish"
 
Step 2: Configure Email client to use TLS
Step 3: Configure Email client to Authenticate outgoing server (SMTP)
 
Outlook
  • From the email configuration, select the email account
  • Select the "More Settings" button on the bottom right

  • Select the "Advanced" Tab on the top right
  • Select the "TLS" setting for Outgoing Server (SMTP) - Use the following type of entrypted connection
    NOTE: if you are using ATT, or have problems with this setting, select SSL, and enter 465 in the Outgoing Server (SMTP) box

    Step 3 - Configure outlook to authenticate to the outgoing server
  • Select the "Outgoing Server" tab (middle tab)
  • Select the "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" checkbox
  • Select the "Use the same settings as my incoming mail server" button
  • Select OK

Thunderbird
  • Select Tools -> Account Settings
  • Select Outgoing Server (SMTP)
  • Select the Account and hit "Edit"
  • Select "TLS"
    NOTE: if you have problems, or use ATT as your ISP, Select SSL and ensure the port is set to 465
  • Select "Use Name and Password" checkbox"
